I chose Los Angeles as the new location for the Saints, considering Texas just recently acquired the Houston Texans, so San Antonio was out of question for me. Las Vegas seemed too XFL to have an NFL team, if you will. So, I selected Los Angeles, since the city has been missing an NFL team since the Rams moved to St. Louis.

Before selecting Seadragons, many names came to mind, at first attempting to tie the team name in with the city's high profile celebrity status, then trying to bring back a name reminiscent of the Rams, but nothing really worked out. I finally chose Seadragons as the name because of the LA Zoo, after visiting their site and seeing that the zoo itself was very significant to the city, and it helped me avoid making a reference to the city's hollywood, high profile persona. There I saw an ad, prompting people about a seahorse exhibit. With Los Angeles being so close to the pacific ocean, I felt a water-themed nickname might just be perfect. Something new, something fresh, something different. I switched out 'horses' for 'dragons' because 'seadragon' is a common nickname for a seahorse, and felt it sounded more unique. A fresh start in a new city for an NFL team that recently underwent a huge catastrophe, and a fresh new identity to go along with it.

I chose to re-locate the team to Las Vegas and become the Las Vegas Wildcards. The name Wildcards has significance with the main attraction(s) of the aforementioned city, and also is a play-on-words of the name of the playoff round in the NFL Playoffs. The main character in the logo, a devil, represents the nickname of Las Vegas, "Sin City." The devil-like character is menacing, and looks to be up to no good, while holding a flaming Ace of Spades. The fire represents the active nightlife of the city, and the "fire-within" of the players that the team represents.

The colors black and red: (again the black/night theme, and red are indicative of the playing cards; the spade, the club, the diamond, and the heart.

The yellow: The lights of the city, and the "fire and spirit" that the team shows.

In Brainstorming for a NFL team name I looked to the currents names that make up the league and based off of that I tried to use something unique for my enrty. I noticed there are an abundance of teams named after birds (Ravens, Eagles, Cardinals, Falcons, Seahawks) or cats (Panthers, Jaguars, Lions, Bengals) which nearly makes up a third of the entire league, so I wanted to stray away from those themes. I chose Copperheads, because the NFL does not have any snake or reptile themed teams, and I thought it would market well. After deciding on a name, the rest came fairly easily. I put the team in San Antonio because Copperhead snakes can actually be found in parts of Texas. The colors are pretty obvious, Copper as the primary color, with Black and White as the other two primaries, which is slightly similar to what the Saints used in New Orleans, to me it seemed like a good fit.

San Antonio. The first thing that comes to mind is the Alamo and its defenders. That's what my concept is based on. The San Antonio Cavalry.

The Logos:

The basic concept of the logos is utilizing the elements of the Alamo and the Cavalry Name. A Cavalry officer on horseback with sword raised signifies action, readyness and will to fight and defend. The wordmarks utilize the shape of the Alamo and if you look closely the insides of the A's represent the windows on the Alamo. The star is also in there to signify the Lone Star State without being over the top. The shape of the logo is also reminiscient of a unit badge on the shoulders of a soldier. The colors remain black and gold to reflect upon the history of the Saints and that color combinations relative uniqueness to the NFL (the Saints are the only team with black-gold).

The Uniforms:

Partly based on a soldiers uniform, they are modernistic, yet not overly done. The striping on the sleeves suggest a ranking patch, and that shape is also carried out on the bottom of the pants. The numbers follow the font that is used in the Cavalry name.

With this package the Saints can move to San Antonio and become the Defenders of the Pride of the City. It embraces the past and looks to the future at the same time.

Slots because they are in vegas of course. I went with the gold and maroon which is the usual colors on a slot machine.

Goal:
Relocate the New Orleans Saints to Los Angeles with a similar theme along the line of "saints", feature the team colors (black and gold) in a new light, and keep some of the iconic nature of the Saints history intact (modified Saints fleur de lis as a secondary). Another selling point for the ID, "the pure and good-hearted team" to contrast the Silver and Black mystique of the Raiders.

Establish an NFL look and feel for the identity and wordmark. Most are simple and iconic in nature (Patriots, Seahawks and Texans). Most of the wordmarks are also understated and sometimes just a font with no added decoration (Packers, Bears, Broncos, Chiefs and Saints to cite a few).

Name:
GUARDIANS. Guardians plays off of "guardian angels" which has thematic ties to "saints". Guardians pays homage to the city's Spanish heritage and the meaning of Los Angeles, "The Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels". Guardians also gives tribute to the well known LAPD as guardians of the city and it distinguishes itself from the Anaheim Angels of LA without using Angels in the name.

Theme:
The look for the logo and wordmark are attributed to the LA Coliseum where the team would most likely play their home games. I designed it to look somewhat Romanesque. The guardian angel is depicted as an athletic warrior moving forward with spear in hand, depicting strength and speed, determination and stature.

The modified Saints' fleur de lis picks up the arcs and points from the spear and figure while the lettermark captures the letterforms in the wordmark and the guardian angel's halo.
